The Indian pop diva Alisha Chinoy has been ruling the hearts of the audience for quite sometime now
She was born in the year 1962 and her real name was Sujata but she became popular across the nation by her name Alisha. She is regarded as the `Indian Madonna` in the later stages of her career after ruling over the industry with her `Babydoll` image initially. The veteran music director and composer Bappi Lahiri discovered this great singing sensation. They together have created magic many times in several films of the 1980s era.

Her album, 'Made in India', was the highest selling record in Indian history, crossing the 3.5 million mark. The song made waves at the music charts and ushered new trends in pop music thereafter. Her distinctively unique vocal ability, stunning looks and charisma have added up to make her an instant hit both on stage and on screen. Alisha has received the prestigious International Billboard Award last year and, more recently, the Freddie Mercury Award for Artistic Excellence.

The most important turning point of her career came in the year 1996. Alisha Chinoy catapulted to fame with her solo album `Made in India` which contains the chartbuster song `Lover Girl`. For this album she won the International Billboard Award and also the Freddie Mercury award for Artistic Excellence. For some years she did not do much of playback singing. But in the year 2005 she again made a comeback in films with the song `Oh My Darling` in the Bollywood chartbuster `Mujhse Dosti Karoge`.

From the time when she has paired up many times with another renowned music director Anu Malik after stating in 1995 that she would not work with him again as he made an attempt to molest her. In 2005 she again created waves in the music industry by coming up with the chartbuster song `kajra re` from the superhit Bollywood flick `Bunty Aur Babli`. For this song she not only earned rave reviews but also won her first Filmfare Best Female Playback Award. She also received much honor and attention when she won the first place at the International Song Festival `Asia 2004` for her song `Seulement Vous`. It was the first victory for India in the particular song contest.

‘Alisha Chinoy was also seen as the moderator in the very fashionable talent hunt `Indian Idol`. She asserted the fact that she loved judging the show, as there was a lot of talent and young energy, which she enjoyed to the core. She is also making an appearance on the silver screen for the first time in the title song of Vikram Bhatt`s `Mumbai Salsa`. She claims that the song is not an item number but her appearance would give the song some international credibility.
